The forming of a Playwork Education & Training Council (PETC) ENGLAND

Are you interested in what Playwork Training in England looks like? If you are a trainer, a playworker, a playwork employer or manager of play people you might want to be part of the discussion.

Play England and the Playwork Foundation are putting out an open invite to a zoom meeting to re-initiate a Playwork Education and Training Council (PETC) in England. The draft aim and functions of a PETC are detailed overleaf.

It is important that we have a PETC England to make sure that playwork training is the best it can be, keeps up with research, and is accessible to all those who want to do it.

We will be looking at playwork training, qualifications and apprenticeships. PETC England feeds into PETC UK where we will come together as all four nations to share good practice and support playworkers internationally.

For the PETC work be effective we need a range of employers (particularly larger employers) and training and qualification providers, with representation from all nine regions in the country.

The purpose of this initial meeting would be to

  • Agree the Terms of Reference

  • Set up a standing agenda which reflects the needs of the sector

  • Look at who is in the room and who else needs to be

  • To start mapping what is currently being provided in terms of qualifications and training
